Reduce a Contract

Last edited on March 6, 2025

If a freelancer is not performing well enough for full payment. Instead of canceling a contract, clients can request a contract reduction, adjusting the size and budget while making the freelancer receive fair compensation for completed work is far better than canceling a contract for both clients and freelancers as it will negatively impact your freelancer score.

Contract Reduction

  • Both the client and the freelancer can request a reduction in the contract size.
  • If both parties agree, the contract amount will be reduced, and the client will be credited the difference.
  • The service fee will not be reduced when a contract is reduced.

Contract Reduction better than Cancellation

  • For Clients Instead of canceling a project outright, they can pay only for the work completed. This will make sure freelancers are compensated while clients avoid any disputes.
  • For Freelancers Canceled contracts negatively impact a freelancer’s score. By accepting a reduced contract, they avoid penalties while still earning some payment for the work they have done.
  • A reduction keeps professional relationships intact, avoids disputes, and maintains a smooth transaction history.

Please note if you wish to increase the contract size, simply create a new contract for the additional work.
